Finalists at the World Championship in Putin’s House
We are finalists at the World Championship in Adults. Just unbelievable! One of our big Goals is achieved. It was a great honor to dance in the heart of Russia, the Kremlin.
Even getting to the changing room was an adventure:
We were brought from our hotel to the first security checkpoint in the Kremlin. The soldier at the passport control looked in my passport, in my face, again in the passport and laughed. It was difficult for him to recognize me because I already put on my Lion makeup. Some unrecognisable athletes had to take away the makeup and do it again inside. After 3 checkpoints, soldiers accompained us to the heart of the Kremlin. We shared our changing rooms with the athletes from the Netherlands and Azerbaijan.
After 4 hours of waiting and prepearing our time had come. Through the narrow corridors of the Kremlin bodyguards brought us to the grand performance hall. During the first round we had a tiny accident. 🤣 I stepped on Lioness “Maja’s” tail and ripped it off. No worries, we could mend it easily for the next round. What an awesome moment, being among the declared finalists! Since 1997 there was no Swiss couple in the Final of a World Championship WDSF in the Adult category. We made it! In the evening the beautiful decorated gala hall was crowded, VIP seats filled with members of the Russian government and well-known personalities.
What a day!
